The OP-367 hybrid poplar – Populus sp. hybrid (P. deltoides × P. nigra) is a cross of Populus deltoides (eastern cottonwood) and Populus nigra (European black poplar).

The OP-367 hybrid poplar grows anywhere in the U.S. and are great for shade trees, a fast windbreak or a privacy hedge.

Ideal for reforestation and wildlife habitat.

The OP-367 poplar is a male hybrid clone that can grow to 80 feet tall by 40 feet wide and grow in USDA zones 3-9.

The 10” poplar cuttings get planted 9” or so in the ground. Only the top bud or two is above the soil level. This gets the roots established deep in the ground and off to a good start, which is very important the first year.

Note: If planning to start indoors in planters/pots we have smaller 5″ cuttings that are perfect for this.

We’ve had some grow over 12 feet in one season that were grown from unrooted poplar cuttings planted directly in the ground. We used landscape fabric for weed control and a drip line/soaker hose to keep them well watered. Without weed control and proper watering results will vary.
