Pack of 100 – Ten inch long hybrid poplar cuttings, approx. 1/4″ to 3/4″ in diameter. Shipped dormant, ready to plant. These are fresh high quality cuttings from last seasons growth.

The Hybrid Poplar ‘NM6’ is an hybrid between P. nigra (European Black Poplar) and P. maximowiczii (Japanese Poplar). The scientific name is Populus nigra L. X P. maximowiczii A. Henry (NM6).

The NM6 hybrid poplar grows anywhere in the U.S. and are great for shade trees, a fast windbreak or a privacy hedge. Also ideal for reforestation and wildlife habitat.

The NM6 poplar can grow to 50 to 80 feet tall by 40 feet wide and grows in USDA zones 3-9.

The 10” poplar cuttings get planted 9” or so in the ground. Only the top bud or two is above the soil level. This gets the roots established deep in the ground and off to a good start, which is very important the first year.

We’ve had many grow over 12 feet in one season that were grown from unrooted poplar cuttings planted directly in the ground. We used landscape fabric for weed control and a drip line/soaker hose to keep them well watered. Without weed control and proper watering results will vary.
